Hell no. All that happens is that ship's compasses go wrong because there might be large magnetic fields around there, and its often foggy so that none can see.
there is no mystery, no strange going's on, and no time shifts
you have to understand that this is a very large open expanse of water and 50 years ago planes where not as good as they are now and if they are crossing sea's that are more than a thousand miles wide that is where you will develop problems, more so than if your just doing 3-4 hundred mile trips.
as for the missing ships, a-lot of these where down to the ship owners having the crews change the identity's of the ships and selling the cargo on the black market.
this is what they did, lets say a guy owns a cargo ship of about 80.000 tons, he would go out and buy an old wreck of a ship about the same size and build as the ship he has, he would then take the name plates off the wreck of a ship and put them on his old good ship.
he would then go and scrap the wreck of a ship but register and insure his good boat in the name of the old wreck he bought.
so in-fact he would only have 1 ship but on paper he has two ships.
he would then take his ship with its false plates and get hired to take a cargo to say America.
the captain of the ship would log his journey with the ports authority then set sail as normal once they got out to sea a few hundred miles they would change course and head for another port.
then the captain would put out a may-day call saying his ship was sinking and give out his location as being where he should of been had he not changed course.
the rescue planes and coast guard would all rush out to where he was meant to be and find nothing.
calm seas and no wreckage and meanwhile the ship had swapped back to its original name plates, sailed into another port and sells the cargo on the black market and claims the insurance on the lost ship that was never lost, its all just a scam and the locals keep telling these story's of strange sightings of ghost ships and hearing screams at night but all they are doing is keeping this myth alive so the authority's don't look into whats really going on.
now they have sat tracking where they can track a ship every inch of the way, no more ships go missing
And now its impact to the world is that many people are more adventurous about this place.Many scientist are challenge about exploring this mysterious ocean.And many people are much more aware in crossing in that part of the ocean.And they will not be lost again if they will make a scam again. hehe ^_^.
